Our species only has one purpose, and that's to consume. That's literally all we do. We seem to be nature's annihilation species, wiping out most of the other species in numbers of tens of billions A DAY. Perhaps we're the asteroid that took out the dinosaurs. Perhaps AI will be the asteroid that takes us out. I imagine AI will merge with us initially (and most of that will be geared for consumption and control), then it could possibly take over by itself.
