@matthew_berman We're behaving like young isolated parents with no experience or support.
We're over-worrying about whether our kids will hate us, be better than us, leave us, maybe even turn on us...
All primal pre-parenting anxieties and fears that usually fade away as soon as the bonding starts.
We're afraid of what our lives will look like when we have kids (AGI) because we can't imagine it.
I suspect it's going to be way more wonderful and joyous than we're giving it credit for.
Empathy and pride are not unique to the parent.
When our collective AI children are born, and yes it's a metaphor - our lives will change and we'll change too.
But when our kids are out curing cancer, solving for poverty and suffering and eradicating hunger, our pride will swell and we'll look back on our pre-parental naivete and give a chuckle.
