AI can’t learn dilla’s swing. He wasn’t even human. His swing isn’t something you can replicate because only he knew where the snares should land or where the kicks should be.
That’s the thing with AI art it can only imitate. Why would I care of a robot can make a beat, it’s not really that impressive. Artists are more than just their work, they’re people with histories and a story to tell. Look at how many kids try to make “dilla style” beats but they never sound quite like dilla. And even if they did, it wouldn’t matter as dilla already did that years ago. We want new music not an imitation of something we already know.
Whereas FlyLo was inspired by dilla’s work, but took his music in a different direction and incorporated various influences from his Aunt and uncle, to his contemporaries ,and his musical heroes. Like how dilla did with Pete Rock, he incorporated his Detroit heritage of Motown and techno.🤷♂️
