I bet a heterogenous ecology of misaligned AIs could work as checks and balances for themselves. Some pro-human, some con, some self interested, some paperclip machines. If we got this mosaic of sparse objectives, none more much powerful than the other, no full control convergence will take place. Perhaps, in that sense, multiple AI develepments running against each other is the best safeguard we have.
