I don't know how you could create a trial on a subset of the population: you'd need a closed system to see how the chips fall. However, an unskilled/unintelligent person could easily have no ambition and would be happy to eek out an existence with UBI. However that is just about what the Welfare system is nowadays. And today, with declining hope of doing well could cause more to simply give up and live rough. BUT THEN AUTOMATION which make those ranks swell as well - so what is the solution to vast amounts of unemployed lay people?
