AI always makes me think of the line in Star Trek IV* where Spock & Kirk are discussion how to replicate whale song so that the big probe destroying Earth will go away. Spock says it will fail because they would be “making the noises, not speaking the language”. That’s pretty much what all this generative AI does. It “knows” the shapes, patterns, lines, etc. and “knows” how to assemble them, but the result is woefully inadequate.
*For a light hearted “save the whale” movie, that film is a prophetic gold mine.
