I just realized, couldn't someone trace the original art (which is typically the old school way of doing art theft) and then have the AI train off that, without having to deal with it being poisoned? That would be a blend of old school and new age art theft that cannot be mitigated by something like Nightshade as its a replica created on a entirely new canvas. I know its probably bad saying this wher someoen can here, but this is already sort of happening with cheats in video games where to bypass cheat detection they just started applying the cheats outside of the Computer at the kernel level. the big companies have the money to make this work by hiring tracers, and smaller AI devs can simply learn to trace, which would be ironic as they are basically using any potential artistic talent to steal art. it'd only hurt the smaller AI devs who don't possess the ability to trace very well at all. I am a cynic and ultimately this does not stop your art being stolen, it just means its being stolen by people who are more competent. its not like Google vs Ad Block, Ad Block cannot work outside of Googles systems, but Art can be taken outside of and put back into the digital space. So long as that is true, nightshade is a bandage at the very best.
