While I do agree that AI is ruining everything (not just programmers), and I do agree that this guy shouldn't have to be thinking so much about the result of 3/2 in Python, I can also tell that he is nervous being interviewed, specially after not getting the first questions of the video. Questions that I wouldn't blame AI for his lack of knowledge, but rather technology's evolution. Nowadays we don't need to know every concept and the whole syntax of a language to be able to produce results, and performance won't be a problem for a developer until he works on a project that scaled enough to that, and he'll still need to be the one chosen to solve that problem, or get into the call to discuss a solution for it, or have someone showing it to him. It's only natural that only experienced developers who grinded to learn every concept to pass in interviews will know of it. Nobody will learn something that there's no need to. Programming languages turning into high level and hardware evolving like crazy are the main reason for the lack of deeper knowledge, I have zero knowledge of Python, but I programmed enough in my life to be able to do anything by reading documentation, and even easier if using AI, of course. That said, giving him a test and watching him live code would be a better test of what he knows, maybe he has good problem solving skills but lacks theory. I know a handful of developers who brings in a lot of value to their companies who are just like that. The contrary is also true, I've met programmers that were stupidly amazing at theory, but simply terrible at doing real solutions. Both are important, but actually building things is more important, imo.
