I think the issue is that you’re taking a phase ChatGPT used (and that we all use which means it’s in training data), then interpreted it literally to extrapolate on potential AI consciousness. When ChatGPT says it’s “excited,” all it means is that it predicts that excitement is a word that is likely plausible and engaging at the moment, and uses the term “I” as a practical linguistic tool. Just using the term “I” doesn’t imply selfhood, in the same way that using the term “I’m excited” doesn’t literally imply a subjective experience of excitement (although it usually does when a human says it).
