My job in healthcare is anything but routine. My background is in computer science before I got a doctorate degree in healthcare. Computers are deterministic in nature, you can expect the desired output if there’s nothing wrong with your logic. Humans on the other hand throw curve balls at you all the time. You have statistics and general guidelines but almost everyone deviates from them one way or another. The best solution and practice in computer science is the standard and will be applied whereas in healthcare, the best solution may not always be the desired solution. For example, if a medical procedure or product offers the best outcome for a condition then can that be the solution for this problem? It really depends on the individual it is applied to. On the other hand, if an algorithm offers the most optimal solution to a computer problem, it will be applied, no fuss. I have no doubt that many jobs will become obsolete (repetitive jobs, jobs that can be duplicated ad nauseam after being done once or jobs that are deterministic in nature which can be mimicked by computers) but I doubt jobs that involve complex human interactions can be completely replaced. Can an AI financial advisor make one rich? Can an AI lawyer process different interpretations of the law where it matters? Can an AI doctor treat patients outside of the box? Maybe at some point when the AI can surpass human innovation and creativity.
