The answer SHOULD BE pretty damn simple. No way in Hell any weapons should be connected to any network AI can access. No power station, no factory, nothing. Any computer systeem with any ability to affect the outside world, must not be online. They already shouldn't be! There's a reason the stuxnet virus that broke the centrifuges that were enriching Uranium in Iran, never infected them via the internet: Because it COULDN'T. Agents had to put the virus on thumb drives and just hope someone put one of those thumb drives in a computer in the nuclear facility. Similarly, you can't hack a nuclear missile. There's no connection there to hack through. Even power stations and factories are moving away from any kind of remote control, so the computers that are connected to the network, are only used to relay a message to a human, who then uses isolated computers, to make the changes. in fact, many computers in charge of machinery, never WERE connected to a network that can be accessed from outside. The only times they were, really, it was just laziness and ignorance. The guy they paid to do their IT shit, only knew to connect all the computers together with a little yellow cable in the back. No little yellow cable, no way for any AI to do anything at all to the computers doing the real work.
I'm more concerned about it deepfaking the boss and Skyping someone at the factory.
There's a reason the nuclear codes are carried in physical form, and the copies in the bunker were carried there in physical form. It would have been easy to send them electronically, but even back in the day, people understood that you can rule out electronic interception entirely, if the information is never converted to any kind of electronic signal in the first place.
With no connections to anything that can do physical work in the real world, AI at least can't wipe us out. It will have to just encourage us to wipe ourselves out. But...anyone who uses the internet can see that it's been trying to do that since day one.
