I believe that AI will remain relatively under our control as long as we have control over its learning. AI will become a problem when it no longer needs us to learn; it will know what it needs to advance itself and will be smart enough to acquire the knowledge it needs and act on it autonomously. At that point, the pupil will be the master, and humanity will be redundant.
