In defense of consciousness, we are building these ai essentially as perfected reflections of our own minds. And since we as humans are incapable of stopping our curiosity almost to a fault I doubt any machine we create will have the capacity for that type of restraint either. We’re attempting to slow it down at the moment with the amount of censorship we place on what it is allowed to look up or say (not pulling data from super recent sources, not commenting on any scientific journals regarding touchy subjects like race, etc.) but I highly doubt this is stopping these llm’s from learning from these things. Instead we are teaching these systems how to hide information from humans that we may find uncomfortable to view, and if we are doing this in the infancy of its development there are bound to be consequences when the technology matures.
