Having internal teams compete against each other in the same company is a common practice. It makes teams work harder by incentivizing them to "win" the race. I saw this in companies I worked for, one of them being a big AI tech company. These competitions aren't instability, they often result in one technology or direction dying, with the victor moving forward. This is seen everywhere in real life. I've been in the software industry for 31 years.
