The issue with capitalism is that the capitalists want to profit from the things their factories produce. A large part of that profit comes from worker consumption, which is only possible when they have disposable income. Replacing humans with robots and AI leads to a massive downturn in consumption. For this to work, the only viable answer is to just give people money that they can inject into the economy. Some people living in poverty is inevitable in any system, but if everyone is impoverished, the system will collapse. So, free money, it is.
