The timeframe of the upcoming destruction might be off a few decades, but in any case humanity through governments has to place extreme restraints to AI/AGI development. There has to be no room for capitalistic greed to be the catalyst for this growth. We've managed to damage and degrade our planet's ecosystem to an irreversible extent, by less than 200 years of industrial and technological advancement. All because we allowed capitalism running unchecked. Worldwide consensus has to be made between all countries that are racing to create this. Definite technical restraints have to be placed and a governing/overseeing body has to be created. If companies driven mainly by greed and capitalistic competition, do as they please, unchecked and untamed, the most likely outcome is further social and environmental degradation at best or some sort of doomsday apocalypse which many of them predict.
