There are some things we can potentially look forwards to under AI. Industries where costs are inflated in part due to scarcity could become cheaper. Robot doctors would bring down the price of healthcare and perhaps give more Americans access to affordable preventative healthcare. Robot construction workers can potentially bring down the cost of building houses and make home ownership more affordable.
That being said, these two examples are currently prone to artificial scarcity. We don't build houses not because it's too expensive, but because there's so much red tape and BS because your neighbors don't want you to be able to build anything. We also limit the amount of doctors that we produce. Both of these things could be addressed without AI.
Additionally, making things cheaper isn't really a fix if the buyers are all unemployed. I have not yet seen a good answer to how we're going to find new work for people unable to compete with mass produced robots. This is a troubling question.
