If the toaster wants to be paid for toasting, by all means pay it! We pay people to use the toaster at certain fast food chains, why not just give the money to the toaster?
Second, if the funny tv robot has opinions on the show, I want to hear them damn it! It's essentially a roommate. And if you don't like each other, let the TV go live with another dude who wants a sentient TV.
Third, if we make artificial humans, why wouldn't they have rights? And if they adapt pain or something, they shouldn't need to feel it, even if it was simulated or fake or whatever, the very fact it feels it should be enough to put a cap on the problem.
If anything can say "Ow, stop that!" in any discernible way, and isn't a direct component of our rights or daily functions (microbes don't need them anyway), or if we can feasibly protect the rights of a creature able to state the above, I say it should happen.
