I have been working in the corporate world for 40+ years (I.T.) and what I have observed usually happens is the executives don't cut "after automation" they cut for the "potential of automation". In other words, they make the cuts assuming it will push the work force into automation. A.I. of course is a great excuse for this and of course a lot of execs have their mouth watering at the potential for cuts/cost savings and of course getting better bonuses and stock prices. I posted over a year ago every time somebody posts about cost savings due to AI that it was a dangerous way to think about it(because it is not sustainable... if everybody gets layed off buys your product). They way it "should be " thought about is an opportunity to produce more for the same price (and expand product offerings), thereby reducing cost to the consumer.. you sell more "stuff" and win in a sustainable manner. But hey .. who listens to me. Bean counters want the stuff the worked in the past...lay off people, Wall Street likes it... stock goes up.. whoopee.
