We're making large strides and advances in genetic editing and engineering (TAL-PITCh/CRIS-PITCh/CRISPR-cas9, anyone?).
Why not focus on designer babies instead of advanced artificial intelligence and robots?
If you want a robot to help put-away the groceries (as mentioned in this video), then just modify some genes on a baby to have intelligence limitations that result in an IQ of 75 with no anger or mutiny tendencies, and you got yourself a maid/butler!
