I worked for a big tech company that has developed Gen AI to yes “replace” actual work by people by taking from the work of people. The reason I know this is they started building the argument on the copyright/theft issue from the get go. If they weren’t aware they were doing something possibly illegal or at least unethical, then why would they be engaging in the illegality message from the start. They are fully aware they are engaging in possible “theft”. And I say possible because as long as they are way ahead of any law or regulations, they are embolden to push forward regardless of any harm they will do. And by that point they believe it will be too late to stop them and any penalty they face will not matter. They have gamed that it will be minimal to how much they will be worth.
