The worst thing about this is that AI could've been used in a far better way to create art. Maybe companies could've hired artists and paid them to make art to train the AI instead of scraping it from the internet, or—if they simply couldn't do that—they could've at least made a volunteering kind of system in which artists could willingly volunteer, which would make a creation of a big collective of artists. Even if all of that is out of the table, then maybe AI could've made not to create art, but to assist in its creation. It's still very marketable and profitable, but rather than paying for what is essentially copy and paste of other people's art, you pay for an AI that assists you in digital art. It could have functions like making your lines more or less smooth, blending the colors a bit more or less, or even broader things like transforming the art you've made into a different style, where you could go on and modify it to your heart's content from there. AI isn't the problem; it's those who run it that are the problem.
