Not everyone wants to dump 10,000 hours into anatomy studies just to draw their D&D bard or a game sprite. Some people are writers, GMs, indie devs, or just want a damn avatar that doesn’t look like Windows 95 clip art. Their passion is elsewhere. Why the hell should they be gatekept from visual expression because they didn’t take a vow of eternal apprenticeship in the Sacred Order of Holding a Pencil Correctly?
And no, I’m not dropping $100 per character portrait for my campaign. I’d be bankrupt before the next arc. I still want visual props though. AI lets me have them. Expecting me to renounce that is like scolding a guy in the industrial revolution for buying mass-produced clothes instead of “authentic hand-loomed fabric blessed by artisanal finger-grease.” He didn’t give a damn. He wanted clothes, not mystical artisan soul residue.
Same energy here: I want usable art, not a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Sanctified Suffering.
P.S. And yes, this does create real economic problems for artists. Every tech shift wrecks someone’s business model. The Luddites didn’t stop industrialization, and you’re not stopping this. The smart move is pushing for transparency and copyright protections, and then repositioning yourselves as the luxury tier. Hell, train a LoRA on your own output and sell access to it—pay-per-image or subscription—then offer human post-processing as the premium service. Adapt, innovate, organize. Don’t audition for Luddite: 2025 Edition.
