I think these people would have gone crazy one way or the other. You have to be predisposed. It's not like a cult, where there are people actively brainwashing you. These people guide the conversations in those directions. It's also a bit unfair that "ChatGPT" is synonyms with LLMs. I doubt their market share is that significant. If anything, OpenAI is the least sensational of all of them (just look at what the other guys say). They just get sensationalized by others.
