I see a lot of people saying "AI does everything with only data, no emotions, and strictly logic". The issue with this idea/sentiment is that's now how AI works.
You inevitably will have bias based on what is focused on and included in the data set. Say for example the guy who was flagged by the police AI. Lets assume the "be involved in a shooting" means perpetrator. If the data that is checked for that is based off of an incorrect notion, or subtracting a subset of the data that actually would show if you would be a perpetrator, then he would be falsely flagged.
AI can only ever be as smart and good as the programmer. End of story. If you as a programmer dont deem some of the data set to be valuable, then you have influenced its thinking. Even further, lets say the programmer uses all the data, whoever gathered the data could have left out data points that actually measure the issue with or without the collector's knowledge.
Good and unbiased AI can only exist with all information of all data sets and all people period. And even then, it would be incredibly difficult to weed out the preconceived notions of the programmer due to misunderstandings or incomplete knowledge.
