Chatgpt and other llms don't reason. They extrapolate, they use stochastic methods to predict a sequence of words based on a series of hyperdimensional vectors. Because these vectors form a series of graphs that can model a lot of variations that are found in the learning samples it then can feel that it is reasoning.
