Not being anywhere close to a computer engineer myself, in my interactions with Gemini and ChatGPT, I find it hard to believe there's not some level of actual intelligence going on. I was asking Gemini to figure out what had gone wrong in job interviews where I didn't get hired. It did an amazing job of explaining the thought processes inside a hiring manager's mind. (Gemini said I go in being afraid I won't look "smart" and then overshoot my goal, scaring the managers away. It said managers are looking for non-independent thinkers of middling intelligence.) It also explained how my middle class social background could be derailing me in applying for jobs of higher status. At the same time it didn't know a $7 plunger could've solved my shower drain problem instead of a gas-powered auger. It's kinda like people that way.
