While AI tool are not able to replace actual programmers today and may do so, most of the layoffs were non-programmers. However i must admit some companies did go big into replacing programmers, Microsoft i suspect is one. The final issue is most of the time and effort is in testing the code, i suspect that is the area which is getting the biggest cuts as to a bean counter it feels not important.
