The answer to the question of "which of these pieces has more artistic value", is dependent on the pre-requisite of whether a human made it. Now we can argue as to what we exactly mean by "artistic value", but we SHOULD be able to agree that, whatever it means, AI-generated imagery does not qualify. It's like asking which of these two marinara pasta sauces is more authentically-Italian in its recipe -- except on of them is not actually a marinara sauce, it's red paint simmered on the stove top.
It's not a "gotcha" experiment with the AI Jackson Pollock and the AI landscape images, because the question is based on misleading premises specifically designed to mislead the participants. Now sure, if you're arguing that artistic value should be based purely on the visual appeal of the art, rather than who or what created it, then sure, this experiment seems like a GOTCHA moment for opponents of AI. But I believe that we get too lazy with defining art. If art can be "anything", and is just based on the subjective experience or whatever, then anything can be art, and the word loses its meaning. If a label because infinitely-scalable, then it becomes synonymous with everything, and thus has no labeling power.
