The problem with the analysis is that you establish a hypothetical situation in which one car is self-driving and the rest are not. By the time self driving cars become available, they will be everywhere and they will be communicating with each other. The car on your left will automatically move to make room for you so your car can avoid the collision. There will be a transition period, but will be very brief.
