I agree with the budging inches bit, but there is some stuff I must disagree with. From what I recall, the current law states that training data is legally forced to be unreleased (unless the trainer created the images) as that would be redistributing copies of the art outside of the creator's channels. I don't know if this is always the best decision morally, but I mean to say that the status quo there exists due to regulation, and not due to it's absence.
Additionally, I have heard from many people that regulation is a stance pushed by many ai companies who've already collected all the data they need, allowing them to maintain their lead in the market. So every time I hear of regulation, I am understandably sceptic until I hear about what is being proposed.
My perspective is that ai law should more focus on business regulation rather than regulating the entire technology itself at the potential benefit of founding corporations. Especially since the bit about ai that's hurting people isn't the community or hobby projects, but the prospect of losing jobs.
