This actually makes me feel crazy.
Like none of this is a win for any human (except for most of those that have already won). So switching from one devil to another shouldn't make you feel better.
Obviously AI is here to stay, but there is no win for most of humanity here. Would it be kind of cool to see some of the things that happen...HELL YEAH! But militarizing bots might be the least of our worries.
I've had to adapt and use AI. I've been a designer for a long time and there was no doubt 4 years ago or so that I was going to have to figure out how to fit AI into the workflow....but at this point it all just feels like I'm the last human on an all robot baseball team. You're sitting in the dugout and happen to see two of the bots chatting together trying to figure out how to get rid of you now that they've learned enough...I'm rarely seeing play time any more and have downgraded myself to picking up their bats...as long as they let me (I hear they have a bot for that in one of the equipment closets).
And even worse your own government seems so much more interested in AI that they are willing to threaten companies than worry about whats going to happen to their human tax payers. Maybe its so important to them because they can see that there will be many more homeless encampments and they will now just be able to blame the bots for accidentally murdering a whole encampment of useless flesh bags.
Its all so misaligned...but I guess that is the inevitable world of capitalism and greed. Yeah US!!! Maybe this is actually more like Stockholm Syndrome. Like "we'll be fine, but I want to be sure these AI companies and future machine-gun bots will be fine"
