This is just my tinfoil hat theory, you def seem more knowledgeable on the subject.
But I think you're underestimating how lazy we are becoming as a species. Like, you're absolutely right, it takes well versed experts and professionals to make what AI spits out, well, intelligent.
But we, as a society (especially in the US), don't really care about intelligence anymore. People don't write their own resumes anymore, they edit what AI writes for them. Colleges are switching back to blue book written exams because students are just bypassing thought with AI. My sister once asked me how I "know so much," (I don't), and it's because I read articles and comments. She can't comprehend that, why would you read when there's video format via tiktok/YT shorts/etc that will give that dopamine hit and spoon-feed you the information?
Most people don't even do that. What I guess I'm getting at is, I don't think we're going to continue to make AI smarter/more efficient/better forever. I think we're just going to lower the quality of acceptable work to whatever AI model exists in a couple years, and that's going to be it. Bridge collapsed because AI didn't account for XYZ? Oh well, we saved $1 billion in man hours just having AI come up with the concept, even if it didn't work.
Basically, we're just going to keep getting dumber, and that's just going to be the new normal. Doesn't seem like the majority of people want to put any more effort into anything than they have to, and AI is removing a lot of the "tedious" mental work that made humans such critical thinkers. I don't even want to say it will be like Wall-E, I think that was too optimistic a prediction.
We're just going to let machines/AI make every decision for us. "It's just easier/more convenient," will be the motto of the majority.
