TBH I don't think this is so bleak? It's one of those 'relatable parenting' stories. I get having your kid talking to ChatGPT for 2 hours is not desirable, but parents aren't looking over their kid's shoulders all day long either. This sort of thing happens, and OP is not posting it as some sort of great life hack for parents to do on purpose.
The fact that the son just talked about Thomas for 2 hours is actually really cute and funny to me. TBH it's better than doomscrolling TikTok or Insta for 2 hours (or more) like most older kids do.
