Because in most cases the data is already available to them. Why spend time trying to make a “10 year challenge” go viral when you can write an algorithm to just go back and look at people’s picture from 10 years ago and compare it to the ones you have now.
You can of course suggest that “not everyone has a 10 year old picture” but the fact is Facebook has enough info on us through hundreds if not thousands of photos we each post via Facebook and Instagram to be able to program their facial recognition without any help from us.
