Problem is there is a truck driver shortage, with fewer and fewer people going into the industry. A majority of truck drivers are of an older population and will soon be retiring at a rate faster than new drivers being trained, while goods and products will still need to be shipped. Automation will be a necessary evil to keep the world moving forward. Source: am a recruiter. I hire truck drivers. I hire full time truck drivers that are home every single day, and I am still struggling with filling these positions, nevermind the driver jobs that are OTR. Most of our guys are of retirement age and my company offers home time, competitive pay, and good benefits. The driver shortage is what it is, and other solutions will have to be found and explored.
