The good people over at /r/collapse have got you covered!
I'm glad you brought up confirmation bias, because there is certainly some of that going on. I'm guilty of it as well, so as part of my self-prescribed mental wellness regime, I will periodically look for good news. And it is out there, or sometimes you realize the good news is a lack of bad news.
Having said all that, the bad news that is available today is very serious. Global warming, fishery depletion, freshwater depletion and several other biological limits are giving clear indicators that we humans have completely overstepped our bounds and an equilibration is inbound. Just a matter of time, which could be 50 years or 200.
On the more immediate topic of economy/jobs, again, there are some crazy bad news stories out there. Many, many indicators that the global economy has wandered into completely uncharted territory, with sovereign bonds offering negative rates, the Baltic dry index at some crazy low level, the Chinese financial system throwing out all kinds of crazy numbers (not sure which to believe), developed countries around the world have an underemployment/income/wealth disparity issue of historic scale... Yeah, plenty of bad news already published.
To your point, several /r/Futurology stories that should be good news, are immediately bad news: self-driving cars, online mass education offerings, longer lifespans, telemedicine, all point to new kinds of conflict in society. This wave is about replacing the human mind, which is fundamentally different than previous automation. This wave is about scaling the replacement by the millions; nobody talked about building 50,000 steam-powered textile mills at once but people ar
