I'm a software engineer, too. In my mind this misses the point. "AI" is already good enough to help automate much in my shop and to make coding fast that we need fewer developers. I estimate it's already good enough to replace the bottom 20% of us. Replacing the bottom 20% is already enough to cause an existential crisis.
