I agree. I'm a data scientist and I vibe code (or is it vibe engineering??) like crazy. But I exactly know (or figure out) the way to do EDA, feature engineering and related things for building and testing ML models, how to setup an ML Ops pipeline and so on. I don't worry too much about the architecture (unless it's an agentic AI project where the software engineering aspects of an application become more important than ever). It's literally having an overenthusiastic junior developer on your side who will make (a lot of) mistakes but eventually listen to you. I haven't written a single line of code in 3 months (honest confession) but my ML models have worked out okay in production. Judgement and intuition come from humans, not AI.
