This demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of what differentiates "stealing," and "piracy." You're correct; initially, when art is copied from the internet for training, it is piracy. Just as with video game piracy though, it becomes stealing when pirated media is distributed or sold. Generative AI companies are doing both at the same time, and doing the second isn't protected by Fair Use. Not that the distribution of generative illustrations counts as Fair Use either; it doesn't change anything meaningfully. If asked, an AI will reproduce an image almost exactly with minimal differences as seen above. These companies then use then distribute that image to their users (sometimes paying users, at that) which is stealing.
