Not actually true, the tech was a natural course of evolution. The issue is how they regulated.
On 1000 realities, in all those realities, we still end up with AI. So if the tech was going to exist anyway, then the issue is not the technology but people using the tech.
We spend so much time attacking the word AI, but at the end of the day, it was humans that guided that content. If we keep focusing our energy on AI and not the humans using it for illicit gain, then the AI slop will just continue.
