Very good breakdown of what happened in this interview and what the interview subject might really be getting up to with this media splash. I have to admit that I don't like this move, particularly—the goosing of public curiosity and/or engagement through any means which is fundamentally dishonest.
It is reassuring, however, to think that someone this close to the most advanced large language models would not be so naive as to be truly taken in by their persuasive power such that he would be genuinely compelled to carry out imperatives provided to him by the system. It makes more sense to presume that he has another agenda entirely and is just springboarding off of the compelling narrative the chat logs provide to generate publicity (charitably) for the issue of AI ethics, and not incidentally, for himself.
I still don't like the move. Don't approve of the move!
