Cause they go from the experimental side to the "problem". In the end Penrose is too much theoretical and thinks logic must be true. But it must NOT. And somehow he thinks consciousness is about truth. It is not. Actually I have no idea what he even means with "consciousness" - do cats have consciousness? If not they have totally no intelligence? I think he is using the words too strict. Which is astonishing cause in physics AND maths there were often some theoretical ideas that dont fit into reality. And we observe things we cannot completely "understand" (whatever this means cause he only explains this by using other words he does not explain). Our language is very flawed. Maths is by far the best code for describing precise ideas but it is no language. In the end I think he has no good idea what consciousness really is. But he obviously likes to think that there is only one version of consciousness. Theoretically there is the possibility that there are very different types of consciousness. I have an idea of how to define consciousness, but in the end we cannot be sure at all cause we only know "our" version. And there are even brain researcher who think consciousness is just an imaginary function of the brain. Nothing that is really there. What I find a bit absurd cause we cannot completely define it. How can I reject something I cant define. In the end the AI developer will go on... not because they believe that there will be a generative A.I. but they believe they can make tons of money with this technology.
