AI wasn't "learning for years". It was trained. By the people who made it. And artists "copycatting" each other is just them getting inspired by it. By personal experience, the artistic expression of the original creator, the use of colours, lines, shapes etc. Artists place art into their database because they get inspired by it and they choose to remember it. AI puts images in its "database" to fulfil the user's prompts. AI cannot be inspired to begin with. And the argument that artists steal all the time is meaningless because people already dislike "artists" who steal art. Whether it's an artist or an AI doing the theft doesn't matter. Genres of music are not made by copying others. They are made from inspiration and adaptation. AI didn't "get good," the creators of the AI just learned how to improve it. AI doesn't learn, because it can't even think for itself. AI does not have its own desires. It does not want to create. It does not get inspired. Inspiration is born from want. Artists "save" art because they want to learn and improve
