Tealppup Daromeon, the artist for Kengan, is a great example of how to use AI art. Single-generation images are not the end-all be-all of it. Sometimes he uses them for photobashing, sometimes for tracing, sometimes as reference, sometimes as background elements. I think there's also a case where someone can use it to generate ideas for stories and scenes, something more concrete than a written blurb. Not every producer has his own ideas and many just want to greenlight the best ideas his teams can come up with, so using AI for that type of situation is probably really useful. I do also think that for indies, using AI to generate hand-painted-looking backgrounds + other bits can be a great aid to 2d animation. Spend more time animating and less on the parts that really aren't the focus. As an assistance for artists it's really got some great potential for time/budget saving. After all, most chefs don't make their own ravioli, even if they make the sauce from painstaking scratch.
