First of all, you are referring to tracing, which has been around forever and has always been received poorly if the artist tries to pass it off on their own. It has always been a big deal.
Copying without trying to pass it off as your own work is okay, because learning from others is only the first step to being an artist.
If that artist continues their journey, they will create original work that only they could have made using their life experience. AI can't do that, all it can do is steal and destroy, and waste insane amounts of energy in the process. And they are stealing from artists who are now losing their jobs.
