Im more worried about a few humans abusing such system once it is established enough. The Ai by themselves might in fact do an ok job at that, however as history has shown, humans have some kind of sickly desire of power, and having machines permeating and automating most of civilization means those few people can use them to control the rest with super human efficiency.
I think this is highly likely to happen, the AI race is about creating something that can replace workers in as many places as possible.
