"We stand on the shoulders of giants" every generation before has provided a foundation for the knowledge of future generations, but wisdom is knowing what to do with that knowledge. Many of the people working on splitting the atom and later nuclear technology became horrified by the path humanity went down with the technology. We are in the equivalent of the nuclear arms race because the tech companies know whoever has the best AI will have the most money/power. It is foolish to believe you are a consideration in this other than a source of money. Just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should be done. Many of the older generations will see the benefits of technology over their lifetime, but know the blessed life they had before. One day you too will dream of a life before. To change that, business needs clear guard rails. When humans can't agree on basic morale principles even within cultures it is more likely to end poorly than not. This has been the folly of humans throughout history.
