What we got instead was the over-blown rantings of a narcissist who think he knows everything. I actually like listening to NDG as long as he is talking about something he actually knows about. AI isn't it. It's my thing - I was a software engineer (retired). And as an educated professional, I can tell you, AI as it exists is a huge danger to our society. That means its a danger to people. All the self-serving self-satisfied rambling on about buggy whip makers and wheelwrights (not wheel-changers, Neil) doesn't matter. The moratorium on any legislation of AI is INTENDED to give corporations a chance to do with us as they will. For 10 years. In the first place AI is not intelligent by any stretch of the imagination. People think we're going to just plug in a disease and it'll spit out the cure automagically. No. AM (remember, artificial morons, not artificial intelligence) can't answer any question for which it does not already have a solution, which is entirely guided by heuristics regarding communicating with humans in a way that SOUNDS rational, but is not in fact rational since rationality depends on the ability to think. AI does not think. It does what the algorithm tells it to do. The only part of AI that is accurate is the Artificial part. There is no AI. There is only AM - artificial morons. And that trained by stealing intellectual property left and right. Worse than that, it lies. It lies like a rug. Or I should more properly say it generates WRONG answers more often than it generates anything actually useful besides some lazy frat boy's term paper. And I am ALL for requiring the little blue books to be filled up in class to avoid as much AI cheating as possible. Writing ability DOES matter, its not a stupid waste of time that we can just blithely ignore now and push that all over to AM. But I digress. AI does not exist the way people seem to think it does. You can't trust an AI, it will do as its programmers design it, and the design is heavily weighted towards gathering as much of your filthy lucre as possible. Its all about monetization. This is not a leap forward for society - its the imminent implementation of a police state that will make Big Brother look like a candy-ass.
