@laurentiuvladutmanea it’s not stealing if it’s in the public domain… and they have the legal right to use those images as they wish if they are in the public domain.
There are some limited exceptions to the general rule of: “you can’t use copyrighted images” such as fair use in the United States and fair dealing in countries with a "fair dealing" doctrine, which allow for the limited use of copyrighted materials without permission for certain purposes such as criticism, commentary, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research. However, these exceptions are narrow and apply only in specific circumstances.
And it applies in this case. The act of taking this images does absolutely nothing to hurt the creators and it advances research in AI. Making art creation more accessible.
